Tasks to do for first class:  

1) Access district e-mail

go to https://exchange.valleystream13.com/owa
username is first letter of your first name and your lastname @valleystream13.com
password if you never logged in is online

shortcut keys:
Windows Key + L = Fast user switching logon screen
Windows Key + U = Utility Manager (Narrator, Magnifier, on-screen keyboard.)
Windows Key + R = Run command
Windows Key + F = Search for Files dialog
Windows Key + E = Explorer
Windows Key + D = Toggle Desktop / Windows view
Windows Key + M = Minimize all Windows

under tools, Internet Options right click on picture you want and click copy
under favorite menu, click add to favorites highlight text right click, click on print target
under favorites menu, click organize favorites highlight text, right click, click on copy, paste into word or other program
right click on picture you want to save, click save picture as open in new window every get stuck in a frame that takes up too much of your desktop space- break out of it by right click and click on open in new window
     
     
File Management

tasks 7-9

 
  • log into teacher account or student account (room number and first two letter of school name- except for Dever) on the network
  • click on my computer
  • go to the H:\ drive to save files -(task 7) This is your individual folder and can only be accessed using your username (or room number) and password. This is backed up nightly on the network
  • OR go to the S:\ Shared drive (task 8)
  • save to a folder labeled your school to keep the folder organized. This folder can by any computer in the school district. It is backed up- but can not prevent someone moving it or over writing on it.
  • Changing your network password- when logged into your account press ctrl + alt+ del+ at same time- click change password or in the email under options menu change password(task 9)
  • If you change you network password it changes your email one- and visa versus
     

Add a network printer- task 10

  • Add a printer- network, find lab printer- do not set as default printer
our networks are set up using class room numbers, labs are school name
     
 

 

 

Installing older software-task 11

  • must be logged in as Teacher- Teacher is an administrator
    read software requirements, ex. 256 colors, 640 x 800, win 95.
  • once installed right-click on program name or icon
  • click on properties
  • click compatability tab- select option that software requires
  • run program, if it doesn't work- click on compatability tab again and change settings

Change display setting- task 12

  • right click on desktop, click on properties- change setting- resolution,
  • make changes to desktop picture
  • make changes to screen saver
  • change back to setting

Create a shortcut- task13

  • log off as teacher and log in as student
  • on desktop for new program one of two ways:
    from program menu highlight program name and right click for sub-menu
  • click on send to, click on send to desktop create short cut
  • if program name is not on your start menu
  • right click on desktop, click on new, shortcut, click browse- locate program file
    (hint-can be in C:/program files or C:/company or program name)

Multiple Windows- task 16 in bottom desktop area, all programs that are opened are displayed, click on program, file or website to see in full view
     
     
Volume Control right click speaker icon in bottom right hand corner of windows screen Automatic Updates
Restore- when windows isn't running right you can convert it back to a time when things were running smoothly In program accessories, under system tools, click restore able to fix problems caused by an error in a program that was installed. Restore will not delete documents.
