“The Living Seas”
1 st grade Willow Road students studied the work of artist Winslow Homer and his many paintings of the sea. Through Homer’s work students learned that the ocean is sometimes a dangerous place. Students created their own seascape by using a variety of materials. Students used watercolor paints to paint their sky. A painted piece of paper with various colors and textures was painted then ripped into strips; these strips served as the waves of our ocean. Finally, students added various details such as sharks, whales, boats and fish to bring their seas to life.

Autumn Leaf Prints
James A. Dever first graders used the texture, or feel, of fallen leaves to make these colorful prints.
Texture was then added to the frames of these paintings to create the 'look' of real wood.

Fall Inspired Sunflower Project
Sunflowers have been used as inspiration for many famous artists. While completing this project, Mrs. Hildenbrand’s first grade students at Willow Road looked at real sunflowers as well as the work of Vincent Van Gogh. The students used construction paper, tempera paint, and crayon to create these masterpieces. |
