“Shaded Leaves”

5 th grade Willow Road students were inspired by the season as they created these beautiful and sophisticated leaves. Students drew leaves, using real leaves as their guide. Students were inspired to create a pleasing composition by arranging their leaves in a unique way on their paper. Students were then taught how to “shade” their leaves. Shading is a process in which you add various values to an object to show the light and dark areas and thus making the object appear more realistic.

In Howell Road School, our fifth grade classes learned about pointillism. We learned about the artist, George Seaurat, who was an impressionist artist who used pointillism in his artwork. The students used q-tips to make their “dots” with water-color paint.
