“Shake It Up!”
James A. Dever sixth graders studied New York City graffiti artist Keith Haring and then created these *dancing* pictures using their classmates as models!

In the sixth grade at Howell Road school, the students learned how to create one-point perspective.  We made our cities using colored pencils.

These are tessellation designs made by the sixth grade students at Wheeler Avenue School.  A tessellation is a picture consisting of the same pattern repeated over and over again. Tessellations fit together like a puzzle with no gaps or overlaps. The students constructed a grid, made shapes, then used these shapes as a stencil.  Once the shape was made, they looked for the resemblance of an animal or object similar to looking at clouds and deciding what shape it looks like. Then they added detail and colored them with watercolor markers.

“Watercolor Sneakers”

Sixth grade students at Willow Road used their own sneakers as the still life for these pieces.  Students drew their sneakers, then outlined with a sharpie marker, followed by color with watercolors.  Students then created a border, which they filled in using the elements of line, pattern and repetition.
