At the Wheeler Avenue School the fourth grade art classes learned about Impressionism, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. They painted these paintings by painting the background first and then overlapping the rest. This lesson provided practice in color mixing techniques and  how to use their brushes to create expressive paint strokes.

“Native American Medicine Pouches”
James A. Dever fourth graders created these functional yet decorative pouches to highlight their study of Native Americans. Each student learned two different stitches, then chose an animal based on traditional Native American symbolism.

“Glow Leaves”

Looking at a variety of leaves, Willow Rd. fourth graders drew some of their favorite leaves.  Using their drawings, students created stencils which they placed on black paper.  They then colored the edge of the stencil, and used a tissue to pull out the colors, creating a glowing effect.  They then printed a variety of leaves to accent their work.

Howell Road’s fourth grade students made symmetrical creatures with colored paper.
