WHY I CHOSE THIS PERSON?
I chose James Madison because he was the 4th president, during the War of 1812. My sister goes to James Madison University in Virginia and my brother is going to go there.
WHY THEY ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU AND OTHERS?
James Madison was important in many ways. One reason is because he led the U.S.A. as president to win the War of 1812. He told the U.S. to stay neutral during the war between the French and the British so they wouldn’t start a war with the U.S.

CHILDHOOD
James Madison was born on March 16, 1751 in Port Conway, Virginia. His father’s name was also James Madison. His mother’s name was Nelly Conway Madison. He was oldest of twelve children and only seven lived to be adults. His parents were slave owners and the owners of a tobacco plantation in Orange County, Virginia. Where he spent most of his childhood.

ADULTHOOD
James Madison graduated for the University of New Jersey (now Princeton) in 1771. On September 15th, 1794 he got married to Dolly Payne Todd. They had no children. He was the 5th U.S secretary of state. He was in office from May 2nd, 1801 to March 3, 1809. That was when Thomas Jefferson was president. James Madison became the 4th president of the United States in 1809 to 1817. He was the first president to wear long trousers. All previous presidents wore knee breeches. During the War of 1812 Madison was under enemy, he was the first president to be in that situation. At 5 feet, 4 inches and less than 100 pounds, he was the shortest resident. His nickname was the “Father of the Constitution.” He died on June 28th, 1836 in Montpelier, Virginia.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD
One of Madison’s speeches was “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.” James Madison, 1822. He helped write the U.S Constitution. He along with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay wrote the federalist essays. He was later called the “Father of the Constitution.”

It helped me because now I know what a president’s duty is when they are president. I also found out information about an exciting persons life. It mad me feel excited that I got to learn about and interesting persons childhood and adulthood.

Yes because James Madison was an interesting person to learn about and research. He had an interesting childhood and adulthood. Since I started this report I have learned a lot about James Madison. I would recommend him to another person
