PERSON WHO I SELECTED JOHN SMITH

 

 

WHY I CHOSE THIS PERSON?

I chose this person because I read a book about him. He also seemed very interesting because sometimes people hated him and other times the admired him. So I want to learn more. I could learn about Jamestown which was a settlement in Virginia.

 

 

 

WHY THEY ARE IMPORTANT TOYOUAND OTHERS?

He is important tome because this was an important settlement that he was president of. This helped the growth of the new world. He is important to others because when he came it encouraged others to come.

 

 

 

CHILDHOOD

John Smith was born on January 9th, 1580. In England at age 16, he volunteered to fight for independence from Spain. 2 years later he worked on a merchant ship. This prepared him to do what he did later in life.

 

 

ADULTHOOD

As an adult he did some amazing things. He was a captain on an expedition to Jamestown. Smith was accused of mutiny on the ship. Chief Powhattan captured him and ordered death. Pocahontas saved his life. She later died from smallpox. He was an explorer, map maker, geographer, soldier, sailor, and admiral. He died in1631. John Smith was a great person.

 

 

 

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD

He made many contributes to the world! He was the president of Jamestown from 1607 to 1608.In 1609 this job was taken from him by George Percy. He was very brave to be one of the first to travel to the new world.

It was fun learning about him because I learned about Jamestown. It helped me because it was a challenge so next time I will be prepared.

I would not because he is not very famous so there was not a lot of information. If you want a challenge he is a good person. He was an incredible!
