WHY I CHOSE THIS PERSON? OPINION

I chose this person because I like her nickname and she helped us win The American Revolution. Another reason I chose her was because she made a difference and many woman back there weren’t able to do a lot or make a difference. Another reason is that she showed that men weren’t the only people that could make a difference in the world.

 

 

WHY SHE IS IMPORTANT TO ME AND OTHERS? FACT AND OPINION

Mary Hays is important to me and others because of her bravery and of how she helped us win the American Revolution. She is also important to me because she is one of my role models.

 

CHILDHOOD (birth, parents, siblings, important e

vents that impacted them as a child) FACTS

Molly was born on October 13, 1754, very close to Trenton, NJ. Her father’s name was John George Ludwig. Her father was a dairy farmer. Her mother’s name was Gretchen. She lived with her parents and worked on the farm until she was fifteen years old. She was one of four children. Her parents were John and Gretchen Ludwig. She had two older brothers named Joshua and Joseph. She had a younger brother named Carl. She was the third child in her family to be born. Molly’s brother Joseph became a soldier. Joshua became a sailor. When Molly was fifteen a lady named Anna Irvine came to their farm. Anna and Gretchen talked for a while. After they talked Anna asked if Molly could be a housekeeper for herself and her husband, Dr. Irvine. They said yes since the family needed the money. After that Anna and Molly set out for PA.  She sent the money home when she got paid.

 

ADULTHOOD( who influenced them, achievements, and disappointments, important events such as marriage or having children) FACTS

She got her nickname at the Battle of Monmouth in the American Revolution. She got it by bringing the soldiers pitchers of water. She married a man named John Casper Hays. She got married to him on July 24, 1769. She had one son named John L. Hays. She met her first husband when she was working in PA.  He was a barber. Her first husband died when her son was just five years old. During the Battle of Monmouth, John Hays collapsed. She took over his cannon.  She was wearing a long dress. It was said that a cannon ball shot off the bottom of her petticoat. She was not hurt. She got married a second time to another man who fought in the war. His name was John McCauley. She got a pension for fighting in the war. She was a very brave woman during her adulthood.

Mary helped the world around her and world we live in today because she helped us in the American Revolution. She nursed a lady named Mrs. Miles. She also took care of their two sons. She helped people her whole life. Her 102 years.

 

 

HOW DID LEARNING ABOUT THIS PERSON HELPYOU AND HOW DID IT MAKE YOU FEEL? OPINION

It helped me learn more about how the American Revolution was fought. It made me feel like I want to make a difference in the world even more now. It also made me feel like I can do whatever I want when I grow up. It helped me learn that not only men fought in the war but some woman did too.

 

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND LEARNING ABOUT THIS PERSON TO SOMEONE ELSE AND WHY? OPINION

 

I would recommend learning about Mary Hays to other people because I think she is a good roe model. I think she is one of the most not-known famous person and I think everyone should learn about her. Not many people know who she is, but I do.
