Why I chose this person? Opinion

I choose this person [Sacagawea] because in my S.S textbook, she helped Lewis and Clark. They only mentioned her name twice and I was thinking I would like to learn more about her.  So now that we are doing a biography, this would probably be my perfect chance to learn more about Sacagawea.

Why are they important to you and others? Fact and Opinion.

She is important because without her, Louis and Clark probably wouldn’t have made it to there goal. Louis and Clark were sent on an expedition to the west American lands. Sacagawea was chosen to help them on their long journey to the west. She helped them because she knew the land and told them where to go and also she talked to other Native Americans to join Lewis and Clark in their expedition.

Childhood [birth, parents, siblings, important events that impact them as a child] FACTS.

Sacagawea was born around 1788. She was the daughter of Shoshone chief. Around the age of 12, Sacagawea was captured by the enemy of the Shoshones, the Histada. Then she was sold to a French Canadian trapper and made her one of his wives.

     Adulthood. Facts.

In 1804, Sacagawea was pregnant when the corps of discovery came to the Hidatsa villages to settle for the winter. Lewis and Clark interviewed many captured Shoshone’s such as Sacagawea to see if any of them could be their guide or translate them  through their expedition to the Mississippi River. They knew they would need a Shoshone speaking native to help them through the expedition, so they chose Sacagawea and her husband Charbonneau. In February, 1805 Sacagawea gave birth to her first child. They named him Jean Baptiste. She was also considered a symbol of peace- traveling with a child and her husband in an American expedition, other tribes would think that the people who are leading this expedition must be harmless so they would think that they should join along with them. When they came over another Indian tribe through their expedition, Sacagawea realized the leader of that tribe was actually her brother, Cameahwait. But she decided to stay with Lewis and Clark on their expedition.

Contributions to the world.

One contribution Sacagawea made to the world was that she helped Lewis and Clark. Without her they probably wouldn’t have made it on their expedition to explore the Mississippi river
